No matter how cool the city we live in is, we always want to be somewhere else for vacation.  Staycations are great, but when you really want a break (or a gorgeous honeymoon) staying in your own neighborhood makes the whole time feel a little flat.
Glen Oaks in Big Sur and Manka’s Inverness Lodge are some of our favorites in California.

Glen Oaks is located in Big Sur along the Pacific Coast Highway in the absolutely stunning scenery of the Central Coast.  Big Sur is famous for a reason; there are few places in America with more stunning scenery.  Glen Oaks is a good sized property, but every cabin and room feels like a world of its own.  With it’s nods to mid-century modern decor, it’s eco friendly furnishings and fittings, and the amazing natural world around it, Glen Oaks is the perfect romantic stop on your road-trip along the PCH. Heading further north (and a bit off the beaten path) past San Francisco, we come upon the village of Inverness and Manka’s Inverness Lodge.  This is a haven for amazing food, great sleep, and the peace of the redwood forests.  There are fireplaces wherever possible and huge chairs to curl up in and read: it’s hard for me to think of anything better.
